Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation director James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to making false statements to US legislators and impeding a congressional proceeding.
His legal representative submitted the plea acting as his counsel in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.
Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would seek to have the proceedings dismissed for multiple causes including that his client, a opponent of President Donald Trump, was being targeted.
James Comey was formally accused just days after the former president pressured his chief prosecutor to take action against him.
During the hearing on mid-week, Comey's lawyer Patrick Fitzgerald informed the magistrate they planned to file multiple petitions to dismiss the proceedings before a trial, stating the prosecution was retaliatory and that a US attorney was unlawfully appointed to take over the case.
Mr Comey's legal matter was originally managed by the original attorney, who stepped down under pressure from the former president after his investigation into another political adversary - New York Attorney General Letitia James - failed to bring criminal charges.
James Comey seemed in positive mood as he came into the legal venue on Wednesday, conversing with his legal team and making jokes. He was joined by his wife, his wife and child his daughter, a federal prosecutor who the former government terminated.
Upon hearing to the court read his constitutional guarantees and the dual charges against him in legal proceedings on mid-week, James Comey was asked if he grasped the charges.
"I do your honour. Appreciate it," he informed the proceedings.
The former director was the head of the FBI from four years and was dismissed about a few months into the former president's initial presidency as commander-in-chief. At the period, Mr Comey was leading an examination into Russian election interference and whether there were any links between the Russian government and the election effort.
Throughout his leadership, Mr Comey sparked a backlash from Democrats when he announced just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was examining presidential nominee Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against Clinton were never brought, resulting in negative feedback from the Republican party as well.
Government attorneys claim James Comey gave untrue statements to the legislature during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in 2020 when he was being interrogated about both the previous examination as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They claim he deceived the Senate by claiming he had not authorized a person at the FBI to disclose to journalistic entities data about the government examinations.
Prosecutors also accuse the defendant of "wrongfully trying to influence, block and impede" the panel by providing untrue information to it.
Via social media the former director shared to his online platform after he was indicted, he stated he was innocent and accused Donald Trump of conducting himself like a "dictator".
"We have known for years that there are consequences to standing up to the former president," he commented. "We will not live on our kneeling."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "So let's have a trial."
The accusations against Mr Comey surfaced after the former president posted on social media demanding his attorney general, the attorney general, charge the former director and additional individuals.
